On leaving school she went to work in Martin's bakery shops until she was called up during WWII.
Before WWII she attended David Redpath's Minerva Christian Mission in Leith. Here she met David Stewart, who she went out with for a while.
When she was called up she went to work in a shipyard in Fife installing the electrics on corvettes.
During the war Cathy met Petty Officer Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (RNVR) Austin Howes.
Austin and Catherine lived in retirement at Dedridge, Livingston
