Informant on the death of Alexander was his son, William
In 1899 he was a Soldier, Private No.3425, 2nd Royal Scottish Fusiliers, and served in the Boer War.
The Boer War shipping lists shows the 2nd Royal Scots Fusiliers, 700 strong, leaving Chatham for Aldershot on 11 Sep 1899. Sailed onboard the Cunard liner "Pavonia" for South Africa, on 22nd Oct. The London Times reported, "Today the sailing of the Pavonia has been a great event. She sailed from the Empress Dock with the 2/Royal Scots Fusiliers and the 2/Royal Fusiliers, both in scarlet."
After returning from South Africa he was awarded the South Africa Medal 1899-1900 with campaign bars for Transvaal, Relief of Ladysmith, Tegula Heights, Cape Colony.
By 1901 he was a Reservist, with the Royal Scots Fusiliers, single, living with his widowed mother in a single room at Falkirk Road.
Alexander was the informant on the death of his father, John Kidd, in 1910
