    • Despite being Presbyterian he was married in the Mt Matthews Roman Catholic Church. When he was buried the officiating minister was a Methodist.

      John and his son Henry, were both killed in the same mining accident, they are buried next to each other in Windy Gully.

      At the time of his death John had been in the Australasian Colonies for about 26 years. 23 years in NSW, and 3 years in Queensland
